Tree bands work by creating a physical barrier that prevents pests from climbing up the trunk of the tree and reaching the foliage or fruit. Insects such as cankerworms, tent caterpillars, and gypsy moths often crawl up the trunks of trees in order to reach the leaves or fruit, where they can cause damage and reduce the tree’s overall health and productivity.
By applying a tree band to the trunk of a tree, homeowners and gardeners can prevent these pests from climbing up the tree and causing damage. Tree bands are often used in conjunction with other pest management techniques, such as insecticides and pruning, to provide comprehensive protection for trees. Additionally, tree bands may be used to protect young trees from sunscald, a condition in which the bark becomes damaged by the sun’s heat and light, which can weaken the tree and make it more susceptible to pests and diseases.
